The walking tours are easy with two longer segments to master. However these can be shortened by bus, if required. Mainly asphalted roads, forest paths and mountain trails. You walk in valleys therefore only little change of altitudes.

Day-by-Day Walking Holiday Itinerary

1st Day: Individual journey to the Trumer Seenland district

2nd Day: From Trumer Seenland district to Eugendorf

Transfer to the border in Oberofen on Irrsee, where the St. Jacob’s trail through Salzburg commences. Walk past green hills down to lake Wallersee and through a nature reserve to Eugendorf.

Details: approx. 6 hours | 23 km | Up 340 m / Down 360 m.

3rd Day: From Eugendorf to Salzburg

See the mountains in the distance which you will pass during the next few days. Walk into Salzburg, a city with unsurpassed cultural and clerical heritage, little alleys and magnificent sights.

You must have a taste of the famous ‘Salzburger Nockerl’, a light and delicious dessert. Pilgrim’s church Maria Plain overlooks the whole city and is well worth a detour.

4th Day: From Salzburg to Großgmain/Bad Reichenhall

Across the city to Untersberg massif. At Schloss Marzoll you cross the German border and enter the lovely country Rupertiwinkl. The day ends in the Bavarian salt mining town of Bad Reichenhall. Visit the new thermal spa.

5th Day: From Großgmain/Bad Reichenhall to Unken

Follow the river Saalach back into Salzburg county. Past lake Saalachsee you penetrate into stunning mountain scenery and through the wild and idyllic Saalach valley.

Details: approx. 5,5 hours | 18 km | Up 180 m / Down 140 m.

6th Day: From Unken to Waidring

Continue along the Saalach to the widening valley around Lofer. This mountain village was able to preserve much of its quaintness and original charm.

Surrounded by the steep mountain ridges ‘Loferer Steinberge’ you ascend to the Strub pass and continue on your way to the Tyrol.

7th Day: From Waidring to St. Johann in Tirol

Past lake Pillersee with its glittering waters and St. Jacob´s church on to the route to St Johann in Tirol. Enjoy the prospect of a hike with views of the Alps of Kitzbühel and the crags of the mountain range Wilder Kaiser.

Details: approx. 4,5 to 6,5 hours | 26 km | Up 320 m / Down 450 m.

8th Day: Individual departure or extra days

Travel Information

We recommend flying to Salzburg and arriving by bus to the starting point to the Trumer Lakes. You can also fly to Munich or Linz, but these require longer transfers to the tour starting point. For more information, please visit Austrian Railways.

Train via Salzburg to Seekirchen am Wallersee. Walk approx. 15 min. to your hotel, upon request also pick up service at the station. Free car parks at the hotel, reservation not required.

Return from St. Johann in Tirol to Seekirchen by train, duration approx. 3 hrs (1 change)
